So I was on a search for a homemade daily facial moisturizer and made a few modifications to it. This is one amazing daily face cream that is perfect to add to your daily regimen for Spring and Summer!
The ingredients in this recipe uses Natural Oils with SPF. The combination used can go a long way in protecting your skin, both face & body.
- Shea Butter – approx. SPF 5-6
- Coconut Oil – approx. SPF 6-10
- Avacado Oil – approx. SPF 4-8
- Carrot Seed Essential Oil – approx. SPF 38-40 (contains antioxidants to protect skin cells) Must be diluted or it will burn your skin!
- Myrrh Essential Oil – approx. SPF 15 (ultra healing oil to help take care of your skin). Other Benefits of Myrrh.
Serving 4 oz. jar
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup Shea Butter
2 tbsp Coconut oil, melted (or any other nourishing oil such as: jojoba, avocado, apricot, sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil. Almond oil is most popular since it feels the best on the skin for most people)
15 drops Carrot Seed Essential Oil
10 drops Myrrh Essential Oil
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (optional)
3 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional)
2 tbsp zinc oxide (optional) You can add more myrrh instead (up to 40 drops)
With the zinc oxide, this will be an SPF of about 40+ (estimate as government hasn’t had their hands on it in a lab to verify). Without the zinc oxide it will be somewhere around 20-30. Measure ingredients carefully, because a little variance makes a big difference in the end fluffiness.
This recipe is used as a lotion, hence the name. The final product is technically a body butter– a thick moisturizing cream versus a pump-able lotion. Both body butters and lotions are used to moisturize the skin.
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a double boiler (a glass bowl over a pot filled 1/4 the way full with water), over medium-low heat, melt the Shea Butter.
2. Add in the coconut oil.
3. Turn off the heat.
4. Pour into a mixing bowl. Place in the fridge or freezer and allow to cool and return to a solid (not hard) form. This takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on location.
5. Once opaque and slightly firm, remove the bowl from the freezer.
6. Add in the essential oils. Using the whisk attachment on your mixer, whip the mixture. You can also use a whisk or fork versus a mixer. This takes just just a few seconds. Don't over-whip.
7. Scoop into a jar and store at room temp.
Some may find that body butter is a bit too greasy to apply all over the body. Just add a small amount of arrowroot flour/starch. Try adding 1 teaspoon to this recipe.
To use: Apply to both body and face as desired.

This lotion feels luxurious on my face. It is not oily and the skin absorbs it so well. I use it after your face wash. It's great. I don't even have to wear make up after. I even tried it on my daughters skin who has eczema... Works well for her too! Thank you!
